steveinsocal "…a dark, seriously addictive, slowcore-infused shoegaze storm rolls through this impressive 4-track EP… Mondkpof's Paul Régimbeau adds layers upon layer of his synonymous textural ambient and drone industrialised soundscapes, through which La Féline's Agnès Gayraud eerily detached vocals are expertly woven…"

Charlie Gardner One of the best albums I've heard this year in any genre... On permanent repeat in my house... Praying that I get to see them live once we are finally through the terror of Covid and the craziness of Brexit. Favorite track: Cold.

kvlt_trash A lovely shoegaze-y experience. “Burger Shack” in particular feels like riding in a car on a warm spring night with the windows down. The whole album is gorgeous. Once I hear the first track, I gotta hear it all right after. Favorite track: Burger Shack.

Burger Shack Heading to the north This road never ends Now I need a break On the left There’s a burger shack Two cars and a dog The lady stares at us softly They’ve got a TV set On 6ter, they broadcast A series form our childhood I used to prefer Mary She was the blind one Oh she was the blind one But she knew everything Now they’re not that dumb They’ve got the radio Oh they’re not that dumb They’ve got the radio In a Deliverance kind of ambiance Oh in a Deliverance kind of ambiance He likes telling stories Now he’s find He’s richer here Than anywhere

about

Agnès Gayraud and Paul Régimbeau share a taste for freedom: him, with the many uncategorizable projects he features in, exploring territories of noise, drone and experimental electronics (Mondkopf, Oiseaux-Tempête, FOUDRE!, Extreme Precautions, Autrenoir) ; her, bringing symbolism and a sense of the epic to French pop as composer and leader of La Féline since 2008. Paul has twice remixed Agnès’s songs, and she has contributed vocals to some of his tracks. A collaboration on a demonic cover of French singer Gérard Manset’s “Comme Un Guerrier”, released by La Féline, was the beginning of a synchronized journey towards the creation of a real band, a project in its own right, named GRIVE.
Stemming from a desire to combine their two universes, while playing on new ground – Agnès sings in English, her guitar hums louder, Paul's drones become more human – their songs navigate between folk ballads and progressive explosions, clear water and sound gravel. With heavy pulsations and a rich narration, they depict a strange familiarity, the faded reality and its share of sublime, the banality modified by sonic force.

The songs were created and recorded live during a residence at the Performing Arts Forum (PAF) situated in a former convent in Saint-Erme, Picardie, France. The place, and its surroundings — even the strange ‘Burger Shack’ and its inhabitants that Agnès sings about — inspired them throughout. Nature is never far away, neither the asphalt nor the country supermarkets. On the coat of arms of Saint-Erme, there was a thrush ('grive' in French), a common bird of the region : they thought his totem would suit them well; a familiar songbird of grey mornings, which stands, fragile and strong, on top of the big electric pylons.
On February 19, 2021, GRIVE's first EP will be released: four tracks that capture, each in its own way, the effervescence and spontaneity of an encounter, the desire to create together, naturally, an electric music, down-to-earth and slow like the ordinary world, still filled with hidden grace.
